Remote Accounting Analyst (Baltimore, MD)

  • Location: Remote, must be within commuting distance to Baltimore, MD
  • Classification: 1099 Independent Contractor
  • Pay Range: $2,000 – $2,500 per month
  • Expected Hours: 40-50 hours/month

Job Summary

As an Accounting Analyst at CRS, you will collaborate with Country Program Finance Managers and Regional Finance Officers to ensure our financial operations comply with GAAP and CRS finance policies. You will manage financial data accuracy for a portfolio of 7-10 countries, provide regular financial and account analysis, and support various financial functions.

Key Responsibilities

Account Analysis & Risk Management: Perform detailed account analysis, identify issues, coordinate resolutions, and recommend improvements. Identify financial operation risks and suggest mitigation strategies.
Cost Allocation & Compliance: Monitor cost allocations, ensure compliance with foreign exchange rate accounting, and provide technical support on CRS policies and procedures.
Month-End Closure & Audits: Resolve issues during month-end closure, assist in external audits, and prepare fund accounting statements.
Expense Analysis & Project Monitoring: Analyze monthly and quarterly expense fluctuations, monitor discretionary and temporarily restricted projects, and ensure compliance with project budgets.
Capacity Building & Training: Support Country Programs with staff capacity building, resolve major accounting issues, and conduct trainings on accounting and financial management.
Systems & Tools Development: Contribute to the development and maintenance of systems and tools to improve financial analysis and management processes.
Mentorship: Provide mentorship to CP and HQ staff on accounting and financial management.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance/Accounting or related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Experience: 5-7 years of progressive accounting experience across multiple countries.
  • Skills: Strong knowledge of MS Office programs (Oracle experience preferred), GAAP, and U.S. Government regulations for non-profits. Audit experience is a plus.
  • Personal Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, ability to manage multiple projects, and a collaborative team spirit.
  • Language: Fluency in English required; proficiency in French and Spanish is preferred.
  • Travel: Willingness to travel internationally up to 15% of the time.
